Shades of Autumn: White 11.20.11

Throughout the Shades of Autumn Challenge, my goal has been to really capture what autumn means to me...the changes in the trees and leaves and the vibrant colors that make the landscape in the Evergreen State look different for a while. I feel like I have been successful and have experienced autumn in such a deeper way this year. When it came to this week's color - white - I decided to keep with my interpretation of the challenge and capture white in a way they represented the transition from autumn to winter. And what better way to do that than with snow! While we don't have snow where I live, just across the mountains in Eastern Washington snow has arrived. My mom, who loves snow, accompanied me. We went to Ellensburg where I went to college and recalled fond memories while finding the snow. It was a great day trip and I was able to take some photos that showcase winter white. For processing I did minor editing of basic settings in Lightroom and the products are below. Which one is your favorite? Thank you for visiting!

Settings: ISO 400, 55mm, ss1/50, f/10 (full manual, cloudy wb)

Settings: ISO 400, 55mm, ss1/125, f/6.3 (full manual, cloudy wb)

"The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?" - J.B. Priestley

  1. What a fun trip! You did an incredible job of capturing the transitioning seasons! The shot of the bridge and the leaves on the fence are my favorites!! Just gorgeous shots!

  2. Wow! First of all, thank you for taking part in the challenge. I also tried to really focus on the nature aspect of autumn and appreciate the efforts made on your part. I have also felt a deeper connection this year.

Secondly, your photos nearly took my breath away. And full auto? Inspiring to say the least. I absolutely love them all. I've been trying to pick a fav. Leaning towards the bridge, but I'd frame any of these.

And lastly... what a beautiful excursion with your mom.

Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us for the Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge.

I hope you'll join us next week for the finale for a chance to win some fab prizes. Just bring your favorite autumn photo(s)- old or new.

    Have a great week!

  3. Each of these photos is stunning, but the 3rd one is my favorite above all. It's almost as if woodland creatures will pop out from behind the trees and in the grass at any moment.
Thanks so much for joining throughout the Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge. I've really enjoyed your work and I'm so glad that you've taken part in our little challenge. :) Don't forget to share your favorite photos during next week's finale. We'll have prizes up for grabs! Have a great day!

  4. I love them all, but my favorite is the last one with the snowy leaves and the fence leading down to the water. We've had three snowfalls at my house already!
